Psychology Behind Discrimination
Racism is an outcome of a deeply rooted, psychologically maladaptive human defense mechanism that devalues anything that is different than us and only values that which is like us. This is the core dysfunctional and distorted way of elevating our self worth and market value by discrediting any thing that is different. This can be a quick fix for one’s poor self image, lack of self confidence, or self esteem. Unfortunately, individuals, communities, and societies often use this unethical and immoral way of thinking. The psychopathology of discrimination and racism has been with us and within us all the time. It is a malignant tumor that grows and destroys on the expense of others.
