Dr. Maria I. Peña Kumpf is a bilingual psychologist, Mental Health Facilitator, and Mindfulness Meditation Practitioner with a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from the University of Phoenix. With more than 9 years of experience working with individuals and groups with substance use disorders, primarily in residential and intensive outpatient programs, she provides psychological assessment, diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, and psychotherapy to adults and couples.

Dr. Peña Kumpf specializes in transitional life counseling, substance use disorders, mental and emotional dysregulation, prolonged grief, family dysfunction, and sleep disorders. She utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches while incorporating integrative techniques such as somatic therapies, mindfulness, grounding strategies, cognitive training, and CBT for insomnia. She believes effective treatment addresses the connection between thoughts, emotions, physical experiences, behaviors, and relationships, and tailors her approach to each client's individual needs.

In her work with adults, Dr. Peña Kumpf supports clients experiencing emotional, behavioral, relational, and life challenges. She also works with couples to improve communication, navigate conflict, strengthen emotional connection, and develop healthier relationship patterns. She has a particular interest in supporting emerging adults through life transitions, promoting holistic well-being, reducing the risk of substance use, and building healthy foundations for adulthood.

As a bilingual clinician, Dr. Peña Kumpf provides services in both English and Spanish. She values cultural awareness and strives to create a welcoming, respectful environment where clients feel comfortable sharing their experiences. Her goal is to help clients develop greater self-awareness, strengthen relationships, build effective coping skills, and gain practical tools for long-term emotional well-being and personal growth.
